Personal Background
Chema Madoz was born in Madrin in 1958. He studied History of Art at the Complutense University of Madrid. He also attended photography courses at the Image Teaching Centre. His first independent exhibition was at the Royal Photographic Society, in Madrid in 1983. Chema has won several awards such as the Kodak Spain Prize (1991). National Photography Award (2000), Higasikawa Overseas Photographer Prize and Photo Espana. Madoz is an important artist in Spain.
Style
He takes every day objects and combines them to create a surreal image. Chema Madoz finds a way to show an interesting photo and adds a dramatic effect. One way he adds drama is that most of his photos are in black and white. I don't think I can even compare him to any artist or photographer. His work is unique.
Philosophy
Chema composes his photos of elements and objects. He comes up with an idea and then gets on it. he builds a picture in his brain, then that picture becomes a memory that he accesses later. His philosophy is to industrialize photography and his work.

Connecting Unconnectable
This was the easiest one to take. When I saw this I instantly knew I had to recreate it. I had all the materials. The funny thing is that it's not a real cigarette. it's a fake one I've had that I use to mess with my parents and other respected relatives.
This is one of my favorites out of the three. The sequence of the matches is so intriguing. It was a little tough to find a good surface and lighting to take the photo. I also had to use flat matches which i'm a little upset about. Chema's photo was with squared matches.
All of Chema's photos are significantly better. He has much better angles and lighting. I think that the way I set this one up is still a success, at least to me it is. I tried my best to recreate what he's created. I'm satisfied with mine.
I personally feel that my photos depict most elements and principles. I have ones that have leading lines. I have ones with the rule of thirds and others with color and patterns. Over the course of this trimester I feel that I've progressed further into myself. I've gotten better at taken photos. I have another way of looking at things. It's not just looking through a lens anymore. There's so many elements and emotions to a photo.
